The **Otter Mercator Ruthenium Large** has a new look. And not just any old look! The handle of this pocket knife is made from Ruthenium. This special material in combination with the simple elegance of this Mercator knife makes every knife enthusiast's heart beat a little faster.

## Otter Mercator Ruthenium handle

Ruthenium is an exceptional metal belonging to the platinum group. It's very rare, does not rust, is highly wear-resistant and is resistant to very aggressive acids. Even aqua regia, the acid that dissolves gold, is no match for ruthenium. This metal is gorgeous, with its dark sheen and anthracite-coloured surface. 

## Otter Mercator Ruthenium blade from 1.4034 steel

The blade is made from 1.4034 steel. This is a stainless type of steel that is often used for pocket knives. The main advantage of this steel, however, is that it is quite corrosion resistant. It is a type of steel that also hardens well. Also, pocket knives made from this steel won't wear out as easily. The handle is also made from stainless steel. You open the blade with the nail nick and lock it with the a backlock.

## Traditional, handmade Otter knives

Otter knives are manufactured in the traditional way in Solingen, Germany. To this day, they are carefully handmade and sharpened. The range includes knives for recreational, household, garden and outdoor use. There are multiple versions of every Otter knife. For example, different types of steel are used, such as carbon steel or German stainless steel. We also see differences in the handle materials, often natural products such as deer bone or hardwood.
