The Petzl NAO is a particularly smart headlamp. It has a sensor that measures the light conditions. It then automatically adjusts the light output of the torch. You will always have available appropriate light for the situation. Is it getting darker? Then it turns up a mode so you can still see everything. This mode is called the Reactive Lighting Technology. In this mode you can choose between optimal autonomy for the lamp, or optimal maximum light output.
