I keep my knives reasonably sharp anyway and use this for the final stage polish/sharpening. It's my most used stone for both soft and hard steel kitchen knives. I prefer "very sharp" to "razor sharp" but I'm sure this stone would do the job for both. The stone itself is a practical usable size for a standard chef's knife and very smooth. I wet the stone with water (rather than using it dry or with oil) and that works for me. I use it after a coarser (soft Arkansas) stone which I use for the initial sharpening. It's also good value for money and a beautiful natural product. Highly recommended.
