Everything about the Japanese Higo no Kami pocket knife emanates tradition. In the past everyone in Japan, including school children, used to carry a knife like this. The Higo pocket knife was used to sharpen pencils and for many other tasks. 


The blade is easy to open with the 'chikiri' (the lever at the end of the blade). As is common for this type of knife, it doesn't have a lock and the blade completely disappears inside the handle when closed.

This Japanese steel is easy to manipulate. This type of steel is often used for tools, including knives. Just like many other types of carbon steel, it can be sharpened until razor-sharp. However, this steel is not corrosion-resistant.

I ordered this knife mostly because i wanted to get into these type of knifes. The style and quality of the blade is most defintely a nice one but the build quality of the handle and the opening mechanism is just not it. I dont know if it was a production error but the opening joint which is rivetet together was pretty ceased up and even after using some silicone oil to looseb it up a but its still pretty tight. So in summary- its a good and sharp blade but u cant open it quiet easily. 

Mooi Japans zakmes van ideale grootte. Vlijmscherp geslepen en in mooie verpakkingsdoos. Je moet er wel voor zijn: de duimopening is niet voor iedereen weggelegd. Ook eerder het soort mensje dat je gebruikt om brieven te openen, potloden te slijpen of verpakkingen te openen. Ik zou het niet gebruiken als zakmes in het bos of om voedsel mee te bereiden, dan ben je toch beter af met een opinel.

Very plaesed with product delivery all so very good

Scheef, niet gecentreerd en gaat stroef open. Maar het blijft nog steeds leuk. Het verschil met enkele andere Higonokami messen is dat het handvat lijkt of het gebruikt was. Mooi voor liefhebbers van oude ambacht en handgemaakte messen.
