The **Schrade Frontier 5" Fixed Blade SCHF51M** is a solid survival knife, for a good price. 1095 carbon steel was used for the blade. We know this type of steel from many major knife brands. The fact that Schrade can offer a comparable knife at such an attractive price is simply impressive. Especially when you look at the fact that it comes with a sharpening stone and firesteel. A complete survival knife, for a very good price.

 1095 carbon steel is so popular because it can withstand quite a lot. This knife, however, can handle even more because Schrade added a 6.0 mm thick blade to the knife. It makes the knife virtually unbreakable. The solidity of 1095 is not the only positive feature. The ease of sharpening is also a plus. This allows you to easily re-energize the cut in the field with the included sharpening stone. You do, however, always have to be on the lookout for rust. This is why Schrade added a matte black coating to the blade. This means that you only have to pay attention to the edge and any wear and tear in the coating. Great when you are out in the field.

 The handle is made from micarta. That's a composite material of linen and synthetic resin. Very strong, and offers enough. The great thing about micarta is that it offers more grip, especially in wet conditions. The textile fibres namely expand when wet. A very pleasant feature that makes micarta one of the best materials for outdoor knives.

 The Schrade SCHF51M comes in a luxury nylon sheath. In the front compartment you will find the diamond sharpening stone (unknown grain size, approx. 'medium') and a firesteel. Schrade thought about this for a moment: the firesteel is enhanced with a scraper. The coating, after all, ensures that you cannot scrape that well. Excellent solution. The shearth is equipped with a belt loop that can accommodate straps up to 5.5 cm.

 ## About Schrade Knives

 Schrade makes great knives for good prices. That's what they are good at. There are few brands that can compete with these kinds of prices. This does, however, mean that the finish isn't always perfect. Not something to worry about, and in line with the prices.

The blade is broad and solid feeling with no unwanted flex. The handle design is good and comfortable with excellent grip even when wet, and overall really happy with purchase. Sharpening steel and firestick make this even better value 

Very impressed by how sturdy and well built this knife feels
 Only received yesterday so haven't had a chance to use it. I'm thinking I'll be even more impressed when I do.

Only gripe is the sheath, it's a bit fiddly get the knife back in it.

Besides from the sheath it's a great knife.
