## Shapton Glass Stones


The Shapton Glass Stones are remarkably designed sharpening stones. Contrary to what you might expect when you hear the name, you won’t be sharpening on glass. You sharpen on a high-quality Japanese water stone enhanced with a layer of glass to prevent bending. These stones can sharpen practically any knife. From outdoor knives to kitchen knives and from pocket knives to chisels. Especially when you have a hard type of steel these stones will stand out. Think of the modern types of powdered steel you often find in high end pocket knives.


This sharpening stone is truly *splash & go*. This means that you don’t have to soak it in water beforehand. You simply splash it with a little bit of water and you are ready to go. It quickly removes material so sharpening will be done in no time. As such your stones will be sharper a lot quicker and you won’t wear out the stone as much. To extend the life of the stone the glass layer ensures that you can use the entire stone. Even when, after years of sharpening, the stone has gotten a lot thinner.


The sharpening results are very even. The little particles that do all the work, made from white aluminium oxide, are very uniform in terms of size and measurements. The miniscule ‘scratches’ you add to the blade of your knife with this stone are therefore very even. You won’t run into a larger scratch which is difficult to remove with a finer grain any time soon. Sharpening enthusiasts around the world truly appreciate this. ## Glass Stone Seven sharpening stone holder


The holder is designed to perfectly fit the Shapton Glass Stone Seven sharpening stones. The length of the holder and stone is perfectly aligned to make sure the stone stays in place. With the sharpening stone holder you gently lift the sharpening stones from your worktop. As such you will have more room for your fingers. In addition, sharpening will be much more comfortable. ## Diamond lapping plate


The included Lapping Plate is a stunning lapping stone for the Shapton Glass Stone Seven sharpening stones. After all, to use the stones to their full extent it is important that they are flat. This lapping plate is definitely up for the task! With this lapping stone you can restore stones that have slightly started to lose their shape, up to 0.005 mm accurately. The grooves in the stone take care of the sharpening slurry. They collect the slurry and make sure that the diamond stone can do what it is meant to do.


**Using the Lapping stone**
Add water to your diamond stone and make it very wet. In fact: the more water the better, so we usually use the lapping plate in a sink, under a running tap. The water will make sure that the slurry will quickly be removed from the stone which makes lapping easier and quicker


Before you start draw a grid on top of your sharpening stone with a pencil. This will help you determine how long you need to continue lapping your stone. It also ensures that you won’t remove too much material.


You place the stone you need to lap on the lapping stone and move it diagonally from corner to corner. This diagonal movement will ensure that you use the entire surface and that your sharpening stone will evenly be lapped.

Goede set slijpstenen om je messen haarsplijtend scherp te maken, wat ik wel aanraad is de shapton glass stone seven van 2 micron / korrel 6000. De lapping plate en slijpsteenhouder zijn erg handing en werken goed. Ik raad het wel niet aan om als eerste slijpstenen set te kopen vanwege de hogere prijs.

Good set sharpening stones to make your knives hair splitting sharp, I do recommend buying the shapton glass stone seven of 2 micron / 6000 grit. The lapping plate and stone holder are great. I don't recommend it as a first sharpening kit due to the high price.
