I've used various cheap sharpening stones and implements before and never got a great result, so had resorted to professional sharpening once or twice a year. Really wanted to be able to do this myself though so took one last plunge and bought this set. Really glad I did. The stones come in a nice rubber grip mat which, once you've soaked them for 10 minutes or so, makes it easy to keep them steady on a work surface. For my first try I sharpened a chef's knife - took me 30 minutes or so because I was going slowly to ensure correct technique, I'm sure that will get quicker with time. But after using both stones and then running the knife down the ceramic sharpener a handful of times, it was easily as sharp as when I've got it back from a professional sharpen. The ceramic steel is helping it stay that way too, a few quick swipes before any use. Definitely recommend.
