Ready-Set-Cook 2024: what do the best chefs think of Eden kitchen knives?

This year, we once again sponsored the cooking competition at the Ready-Set-Cook event ('Klaar Af Kook') during the Horeca Xperience in Groningen, the Netherlands. In three exciting cooking rounds, several chefs competed for the title of Best Chef of Northern Netherlands 2024. The top three winners each received an Eden Classic Damast 20 cm chef's knife and an Eden Classic Damast utility knife. After using the knives for some time, we're happy to share their experiences with these high-quality kitchen knives!

1. Davy Zijlstra - Restaurant Huize Kwast, Leeuwarden

Davy is the winner this year. He has the following to say: 'I’ve been working with these knives for 2 years and I’m really happy with them! They stay sharp for a long time and feel great in the hand. They look nice and robust but cut very smoothly.' Thank you, Davy. Short but sweet!

2. Raf de Bree - Restaurant Nassau, Groningen

Raf de Bree had the following honest words to share: 'First of all, I want to thank you for the knives! Overall, I’m very satisfied. The handle feels solid and reliable, and the shape is perfect for delicate cutting tasks. The light weight makes the knife particularly agile, ideal for smaller tasks. Additionally, the knife is very sharp and easy to sharpen again by honing or using my sharpening stones.

I do notice that the extreme sharpness diminishes relatively quickly. The knife doesn’t go dull quickly, but after a few minutes of cutting, you notice a difference. Therefore, I mainly use it for precision work and not for long periods of use. This small drawback means it’s not a 10/10, but thanks to how easily it can be sharpened again, I don’t find this annoying. I sharpened it once, and that was quick and effortless. Overall, I’m very happy with these knives!'

3. Isa van Dijk - Restaurant ’t Koetshuys, Groningen

Isa van Dijk: 'These are very nice knives, they feel great in the hand with a comfortable weight distribution. They are a bit on the heavy side, but not clumsy at all. They have an elegant look, and they feel that way too. They are also extremely sharp and stay sharp for a relatively long time, and are easy to sharpen again. I can’t say anything about their lifespan since I haven’t used them for long, but they give the impression that they will last a long time!'
