The **Böker Manufaktur Schwarzgold 140612** is a top-quality straight razor. Inspiration for this very special model came from an exceptional race horse called *Schwarzgold*. In the forties this German race horse was unbeatable. Not only its performances left a mark, also the stubborn character of the mare was infamous. Her trainer only let her do things she wanted to do and on grass she was too hard to handle. It is said that on the racetrack Schwarzgold never reached her full potential.



Böker took it upon itself to create an exceptional razor that does justice to the history of Schwarzgold. For it one first covered the blade of this razor in gold. Afterwards the blade, except for the text and image, was coated with Ruthenium. This is a hard element that is also known as Ru in the periodic table. It leaves an anthracite finish that might even remind you of zirconium. This special treatment fits a remarkable knife such as this.



Böker has been producing straight razors for over a hundred years and has an excellent reputation in this field. This *straight razor* is made in the Böker workshop in Solingen, Germany.


This straight razor has an *extra hollow* grind with a *ridge*. The extra hollow grind gives you an extremely thin edge which is also a little flexible. This razor is amazing to work with but perhaps not as suited for heavy beard growth. The *ridge* ensures that the spine of the blade is thick enough to be blocked by the handle. In addition, the spine provides support when determining the right sharpening angle while stropping and sharpening.



This straight razor is enhanced with a square tip. The handle is made from luxurious bog oak. This is oak wood that has been lying underground for quite some time.


## Solingen 1.2210 carbon steel


Böker used carbon steel for this straight razor. Although the technical number 1.2210 might not mean that much to most, the term *Solingen steel* has an excellent reputation worldwide. You could even say that a part of Solingen's reputation as a knife city is the result of the excellent steel quality. After sharpening it is razor-sharp which leaves you with even softer and more comfortable results.
