The most popular one-handed opening mechanisms the thumb studs, a thumb hole and flippers. These three options come in different shapes and sizes. A thumb stud is a little protrusion, like a 'button' on the side of your blade that you push to open the blade. A thumb hole is a hole in the blade. Both of these opening mechanisms give your thumb enough traction to push open the blade. A flipper is a part of the blade that sticks out, usually on the back of the blade.
